Happy Dhanteras 2021

Did you know DhanTeras is also known as Dhanatrayodashi? But do you know why?

The word ‘Dhan’ stands for wealth and ‘Teras’ for the number 13th in Hinduism. This is the reason why it is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksh (Dark Fortnight) according to Hindu calendar. It is also the first day that marks the festival of lights - Diwali.

In Hinduism, this day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari. His is known as God of medicine and health, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and the King of Varanasi. Legends say, he imparted his knowledge of Ayurveda to the world to help rid it of illness and diseases on this day.

There are uncountable stories that are just related to this hindu festival. Is there an interesting story that you wish to share with us? Tell us in the comments below. Happy Dhanteras to you and your loved ones. Stay safe, stay healthy!
